What steps are included in SEMITRON's tape-and-reel services?
The tape-and-reel service prepares components for use in automated placement machines on printed circuit boards (PCBs). Here’s how it works:
- Carrier tape: The components are placed in a standard tape (Jedec package) or a specially developed custom tape with precise spacing and specified orientation. The tape is sealed with a cover tape.
- Embossed reel: The filled tape is wound onto a plastic reel, which can be fed to automated placement machines.
- Process steps: The service typically includes inspection for defects and ensuring correct orientation and placement in the tape. Drying of the finished reels is performed from MSL 2a for components, or according to customer specification for other parts, to prevent moisture damage during the reflow soldering process.
